Watugunung is based on the Javanese version of the “Oedipus" myth. In Papermoon Puppet Theatre’s adaptation, the story unfolds from the point of view of the central woman character, Dewi Shinta.

In her journey to find her son, Watugunung, who ran away from her, Dewi gains magical powers, marries a king—and discovers a terrible secret that will change her life forever.
